Medical Loss Medical Loss Ratio (MLR) is a metric used in the insurance industry to measure
Ratio medical costs as a percentage of premium revenues. Positive plan performance
(gain) occurs when the actual MLR is less than the target MLR. Negative
performance (loss or in some cases break-even) occurs when the actual MLR
exceeds the target MLR. The MLR is compared to the target MLR to determine
gain or loss.
